Alleys

Why do these resident want to take the alley ? So they can join the properties and remove the trees and pave away the green space. Currently it seems they have alot of pavement and building going on on their property with barely no green space. Well I pay alot of taxes for this city for them to start giving land away. This is going to open a can of worms that not going to be pretty.
Report Abuse (beta)

When

Will the debris turn to gold if left until Christmas?
Report Abuse (beta)

Alleys

Time and time again the dumbness of Garcia and his followers shines so brightly. In Miami Springs, Alleys belong to the city. I know its a little bit hard, but try to educate yourself by reading the city codes. #GarciaandHisFollowersIdiotsToTheMax
Report Abuse (beta)

Alleys

Where is it written that homeowners "own" the alleys? Alleys are considered road ways which is why you can-t encroach or park on them. Homeowners are responsible for swale upkeep but we don-t own the swale. Please cite the code or other info that do ents we actually "own" the alley. And if some people get to takeover an alley then I would like my half as well.
Report Abuse (beta)

When

No, your foul breath should be sufficient to accelerate the decaying process.
Report Abuse (beta)

When

Will the debris turn into compost if I take a dump in it?
Report Abuse (beta)

ALLEYS

That is correct. A homeowner typically owns half the alley behind him her. The owner behind him owns the other half. The owners grant the city an easement to the alley. But the ownership is already that of the homeowner.
Report Abuse (beta)

Defender

Alleys belong to the homeowners. An easement is provided to the government to use that alley.
Report Abuse (beta)

Alley Give Away

If the city decides to give away property it affects all residents. It doesn-t matter where someone lives. Many residents throughout Miami Springs are against giving property away that belongs to all of us. I don-t know Souder but he at least has the guts to get up and publicly state his opinion. Maybe his critics should should show some courage and get up at a council meeting and state why they believe he is wrong instead of taking pot shots here where you don-t have to identify yourself.
Report Abuse (beta)

Does anyone know when recycling is resuming
Report Abuse (beta)

Crazies

I cant beleive that we live among so many nut cases in serious need of psychiatric help in our tiny city. John Souder is out of his goddamn mind he lives on Esplanade what is his issue with an unused alleyway on Deer Run that splits apart a property. What a crazed person security needs to be nearby when he-s around.
Report Abuse (beta)

Yes

I just saw someone put a cigarette in a HUGE planter. The tree in the planter had folded over due to the storm. there was dry debris in the planter. The cigarette started a very slow buring small fire. No big flames, but I was impressed at how it burned a circle about 6 inches around. that was in a planter full of dirt. I can-t imagine what a butt would do to a HUGE pile. My advice...keep your piles wet.
Report Abuse (beta)

When

If I flick my cigarette bud on the dry debris will it catch fire ?

Generators

They are going to need some generators in Puerto Rico. 6 months without power.
Report Abuse (beta)

No Power..Really

During a storm we need to be self-suf·fi·cient for a few days. That means food, water, gas and power. I was reading on facebook post from people crying about not having power. So I started to look into who these people are.I started looking at pictures and post to get an idea as to what type of life they live.I was shocked. They travel well.Drive big cars.Live in nice home. And dress to impress. With all that they have no power. There is a thing called a generator. It can give you power during and after a storm. You made a bad choice not buying one.Stop crying and buy one.You look like and sound like a fool.Phony people who live a phony life.

FREE ICE

THERE ARE SOME IN THE CITY THAT NEED IT. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL IN MIAMI SPRINGS ARE NOT WELL OFF. SOME IN THIS CITY DO STRUGGLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET. I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH THEM GETTING HELP, BUT MOST IN THIS CITY DO NOT STRUGGLE.THEY ARE WELL OFF. THEY HAVE NO NEED FOR FREE ICE WHEN THE ROADS ARE CLEAR,STORES ARE OPEN AND THEY CAN AFFORD IT.TO TAKE FREE ICE IN MY OPINION MAKES YOU A SCUM BAG.I FOR ONE DID NOT. I STILL HAD SUPPLIES AND WE GAVE THEM AWAY TO PEOPLE WHO NEEDED THEM THE MOST LIKE THE ELDERLY.SO SAD TO SEE THAT IN THIS CITY WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE SO MUCH TAKE FREE ICE.SAD, SAD, SAD.
Report Abuse (beta)

free ice etc

I get the concept of free ice when there is no power and stores have run out. Most people in Springs have gotten their power back this p  weekend. Many stores (Milams, farm stores, convenience stores and gas stations) have ice. You need to stop these freebies as many people that can afford it are in line getting free stuff. Even in schools you have banners saying "free lunch". So kids are being programmed at a young age to get things for free. Many do need it but most don-t. Unfortunately they will grow up with that mentality and never prosper- Sounds harsh but true....

THIS IS THE ISSUE WITH THE FREE ICE. WHY ARE WE GIVING ICE TO PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD IT. I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH GIVING IT TO OLDER PEOPLE AND SOME WHO DON-T HAVE THE MEANS TO GET IT.THIS IS AND WAS WRONG. NEW CARS, BIG TRUCKS...THEY HAVE MONEY GO AND BUY IT.WRONG ON MANY LEVELS.WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

Fleischman and Souder

Mr. Fleischman, I have heard that you stated the special election for the parcel of land was 70% against the sale. Please check your facts or your math before you make such statements. It was more like 51% against to 49% for. Mr. Souder, do you really think that just because you provided a petition against vacating that alleyway that the Council would not discuss it? They would not be doing their jobs if they at least didn-t discuss it on the dais since it is the only time they can discuss anything without being in violation of the Sunshine law. You sounded more like a cry baby than a man. They are there to discuss the pros and cons of abandoning that alleyway. From what I hear, some of your cave friends have been the recipients of abandoned alleyways in the past. You should talk to them and yell at them for doing that if your attitude is such, not just the Council.

Free Ice

I don-t think everyone that lives in the springs drives a Rover or a Lexus. We also have plenty of elderly that can use the ice. Don-t  ume just because you can afford to go and find ice that everyone else can also. You are right, there are also plenty of affluent people living here, but again, not everyone.

Wires Underground

My good friend that lives in the grove had FPL move the main wires (40-long) in her backyard underground because they wanted to install large trees in the back and did not want to see the lines and FPL charged them 18,000 to move it underground. That was about 12 years ago.

2004

In 2004, the year before Katrina, I remember losing power twice from storms that never made it onshore. Lots of trees down and days without power. Say what you want about trees and trimming, etc. Bottom line, trees go down during storms. You-re never going to stop that. However, you can stop trees from knocking down power lines, but putting the lines underground. How much will it cost to put power lines underground for the whole city? Figure it out. Then split the cost as an  essment on every property owner. Amortize it over 10 - 20 years. Done.
Report Abuse (beta)

trees and underground

You make an excellent and logical argument, too bad that it will go unheard by the intellectual bankrupted lower life forms that live and breed among us.     These only want to come on here to complaint and criticize others in order to make themselves feel superior and engage in a momentary illusion of self importance.
Report Abuse (beta)

trees and underground

Underground is a great idea but it will take a long time and many people will not pay. I think we need trimming on a yearly basis and owners need to trim their own trees to avoid more damages. If neighbors see trees that can affect their property or wires, they should first try to show neighbor and if they dont act, they should call city. 7 days without power caused by outer bands of a category 3 should not happen.....We all need to be accountable.
Report Abuse (beta)

No need to be a snarky brat! It is the cities responsibility to advise the residents as to what is going on! People are just asking what-s going on. So instead of insulting people (many of whom either don-t have power or just got power back so they haven-t been able to even see the news) just p  on the pertinent Information

Report Abuse (beta)

It is astonishing how some people who are misinformed or not informed at all launch allegations and insults to others who contradicts them. The entire county is in a trash removal crisis as temporary transfer stations have to be identified and permitted by DEP before being used ; every municipality in Dade County is trying to accomplish the same thing and this process is not automatic.       Of course you would know the state of the county if you allowed yourself to leave those 4 walls which are your world.

You have to understand that there are some people on here who are essentially cheerleaders for the city. The city can do no wrong. Even though we pay all their salaries and for services we are supposed to be subservient to city authorities. So any criticism or questions asked regarding the city is met with a backlash from the city defenders and cheerleaders. It is pretty sad that some have their heads so far up the city-s portal.

Report Abuse (beta)

Never Ends

It-s a legitimate question. No one was being snarky. When is the city going to clean up the debris on our swales and alleys? Is that not a reasonable question to ask? No complaints. Just asking.
Report Abuse (beta)

Debris

It is a fire hazard. But as a homeowner I spray the debris in the alley and in my swale with water. Run the sprinklers and use your hose to douse the debris with water. That makes it a lot harder to spark with a typical cigarette butt.
Report Abuse (beta)

FPL CEO

These Mo Fo-s get paid millions of dollars yet they can-t come up with an electric grid that will stay on during a storm. They better go to switzerland and study their system with all the snow storms and no power loss. I once was in NY during a nor eastern heavy wins and all and the power stayed on. These crackers are stealing your money.
Report Abuse (beta)

When

When is the. It-s going to start picking up the debris ion all the swales? It is now Becoming a fire hazard
Report Abuse (beta)

True

Recent power outages include Irma, the tornadoes, Wilma, Katrina, regular thunderstorms, more tornadoes, Andrew. Basically, we-re going to have serious outages once every 5 - 10 years. If the average FPL customer is willing to pay $500 to $1,000 for a generator, wouldn-t it make sense that they-d be willing to pay a 5 - 10 year amortized fee of $1,000 per home to get underground utilities? What would it cost to go underground?
Report Abuse (beta)

Underground

The argument to move power underground was made right after Wilma. If we would have done it then, we would not have had the issues and expenses we-re having today. Plan for the future.

Beautiful Miami Springs is a quiet residential community located in the heart of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Literally, just minutes away from anything in Miami, it's a slow paced oasis within the larger hustle and bustle of greater Miami.

Miami Springs was founded in 1926 by Glenn Curtiss, also known as the "Father of Naval Aviation." Miami Springs is a middle to upper middle class neighborhood with a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. At the core of Miami Springs is a championship style 18 hole golf course that has hosted hundreds of tournaments and celebrities alike.

Miami Springs has a mix of homes ranging from modest to luxury. Most of the larger, luxury style homes can be found along the beautiful golf course.

Miami Springs has a row of hotels along NW 36 Street, adjacent to Miami International Airport. The proximity to the airport and the 10 - 15 minute distance to the Port of Miami Cruise Ships and South Beach makes Miami Springs a popular hotel destination for tourists from all across the globe.

MiamiSprings.com was created in 1997 by local businessman and Miami Springs resident, Nestor Suarez. Nestor loved the city he grew up in and created the first website dedicated to the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens area. To this day, Mr. Suarez still operates the website providing local news, events, updates, and photos. The website also has a popular (and sometimes controversial) political forum where anyone can discuss current local issues, politics, ideas. Forum posts and Individual comments posted on MiamiSprings.com do not necessarily represent the opinion of MiamiSprings.com, its owner, or its advertisers.
