Does anyone know what the dentist plans on putting in the building

What

Dentist bought building across Sabores Restaurant (where varadero photo, tobacco place and metro pcs used to be. Coming into Springs from incoming bridge its the first building to your right. I believe the Dentist is the one that rents space from Milams professional building (across Milams Supermarket and next door to Twice as sweet cupcakes).

Agree on East Drive and Eldron Drive. This is the ugly side of Miami Springs and hopefully something can be done soon to revitalize that area. On Dentist buying shopping center, kudos to dentist and hopefully they can make the entrance of Miami Springs a nice first impression.

Apparently the new property owners that bought that shopping section is the Apple Dentist place next to Miliam ( which they are expensive and  ). They are kicking everyone one out and they are moving there. Kinda  s if you ask me. Liked the differents shops.

Creeps

We like to play Spot The Creeper in Publix Hialeah. The pick pockets are so BOLD. And they actually do fit a profile. South Central American, walking around with or without a small basket with one random item in their hand. They are looking at items there is no way they are going to purchase like feminine products or pate. 20 minutes later they have a completely different random item in their hand and they conveniently stand near women all the time. I saw one in Milams once and went straight to the Manager, that manager went directly up to him and asked if he needed help finding something. I haven-t seen one n there since.

What will the city do to address the crime on NW 36 street, Eldron, and Fairway? Charge a bed tax!

Milams

Milams is the community market we love. It-s a social event. You can-t go 2 minutes in Milam-s without saying hi to someone. It-s definitely not the place to shop incognito. Milam-s is not the lowest priced, but they are reasonable. they have a great product selection. My only beef with Milam-s is that the produce is inconsistent. Sometimes it-s very good. Sometime-s it-s not so good. The wine selection is great. They have plenty of Cuban bread. they could really use a bakery to order cakes, cupcakes, and maybe pastelitos.

Criticism

In a representative democratic form of government; the people, receive the type of government that they deserve based on their intellectual capacity to choose their leaders.      Now, you know that all of this posturing is merely because you love to hear yourself talk and show all of your neighbors how smart you are.     I bet you don-t get invited to many parties.
Report Abuse (beta)

Plans

Hmm, can you share with us the said plan drawings for this path? It-s no where to be found on the city website.
Report Abuse (beta)

Criticism

Based on past experience, the city will do stupid things no matter how many residents don-t like a project or disagree in how it-s being done. Your only goal is to stop legitimate criticism. As this is a forum for public discourse, we-re having an open conversation about what the city does right and wrong. I like the idea of a pedestrian path on Westward. But I, like others on this forum, are expressing deep concerns over the safety of pedestrians. This is not as safe as Curtiss Parkway.
Report Abuse (beta)

Report Abuse (beta)

Contracts

I meant to say contracts. Government contracts.
Report Abuse (beta)

Debate

We-re all for open debate and discussion. But make no mistake, there are many contractors that benefit financially from city contracts. City contractors have been paid millions of dollars. Those contractors have a YUGE vested interest in acquiring these contractors. They spend thousands in attempting to acquire those contractors. Contractors pay lobbyists and lawyers. And sometimes contractors pay politicians, political family members, etc, in order to get their way. If you don-t think this happens, you are naive and unfamiliar with the long history of South Florida politics.
Report Abuse (beta)

Arrogance

The only arrogance here is of those who think that only their point of view has merit and that everyone who disagrees with them has a financial interest in the city-s projects.     Have no fears, your condition is treatable.
Report Abuse (beta)

Criticism

Don-t criticize it until you it-s done is the kind of argument that gave us a deficient and poorly designed pool. The city "leaders" don-t want any critcism before during or afterwards. Too bad. I like the idea of a pedestrian path along westward, but anyone who-s ever been in Miami Springs knows that most drivers do a pause on the Westward medium. A typical scenario, a driver looks to his left to make sure no cars are coming. Then looks to his right and may proceed to the median until the coast is clear on the right. Going forward, drivers will have to look left, then towards the left median, then the right median, then left again to make sure no car is coming, and then you can proceed to the median. That-s even before you look to the right to make sure cars aren-t coming on the other side of the median. On Curtiss Parkway, I always stop to before the cross walk just to make sure no kids or joggers are about to p , If there is a jogger, I let them p  first. but Curtiss Parkway has room for this on the median. Westward Drive barely has space for a single car. So, I don-t have to wait for it to be finished to know that all drivers will have to be extra cautious crossing Westward. Oh, and I-m for this project. But to ignore the obvious safety concerns exposes the grand arrogance coming from those who have a financial interest in city projects.
Report Abuse (beta)

Bike path

Why don-t you wait until the damned thing is finish before you start with your negativity? BTW, if you have one of those little things in your wallet that allows you to drive, you should know that in Florida pedestrians have the right of way.      Are you by chance related to Ralph Nader?
Report Abuse (beta)

Criticism

Well said. The only people who disagree with that are the leaders who produce such poorly planned projects or their mindless cheerleaders and enablers.
Report Abuse (beta)

Bike path

If you think the bike path is a great idea, do me a favor and walk along the projected bike path during peak traffic hours and tell me how many times you almost get hit by cars where the driver only looks left to then advance halfway before they look right. Try it on Lenape. This would be a great video for someone to take with a go-pro camera, and then post on youtube or facebook. Imagine once school starts again. All those high-schoolers driving in the morning, half asleep, late, and inexperienced.... what could possibly go wrong...
Report Abuse (beta)

Criticism

If you build something with your own money, nobody cares. If the city builds something paid for with Miami Springs tax payer dollars, then the city should expect to receive criticism for the things the public disagrees with. It-s called free speech. If the city wants less criticism, maybe next time, they should listen to the public-s suggestions just a little bit more than the so called expert opinions. The experts only cared about collecting millions. they are not paying for the pool and thus have no vested interest in what the residents want. The city can easily correct the deficiency by adding a public canopy by the kiddie section. You can get a cheap one for about $150 at Costco. What did the city do with the old canopy and bleachers that the old pool had? You can reuse that and solve the problem.
Report Abuse (beta)

Pool

It-s called a poorly designed pool. Seeing as the pool was designed mostly as a splash pad, and that those are the kids that need the most parental supervision, you-d think there would be a shady area for parents to watch the little ones. Billy promised there would be a shady area. And there is a shady area behind the building almost near the trash. So, it-s unusable for parents who actually want to supervise their little ones.
Report Abuse (beta)

I think it-s a great idea ! Why is everyone so sour about this ? Is this a personal vendetta on Garcia?
Report Abuse (beta)

Kids

When I was a kid growing up here, there were a lot less people and certainly a lot less cars. Look at the number of cars parked in front of houses late at night to see. Also the people knew how to drive, were respectful of others and courteous. We now live in a third world country where people don-t know hoe to drive are rude and disrespectful. In their minds they are the most important person in the world and the Hell with you and your kids.      Thankfully I don;t have kids that age anymore; however if you do. . . . . . . well enough said

No serious cyclist uses the bike path on Curtiss or will use the one on Westward. Cyclists don-t like to stop. Cyclists will continue to use Westward drive. Oh, it-s a pedestrian path? I don-t think the city knows that since they have a webpage labeled -Westward Drive Bike Path Project Begins-.... If only there was something on the side that people could actually walk on... we could call it, oh I don-t know... maybe a sidewalk? Yeah, that sounds good... But I do agree with you. It is WAY safer to ride bike on the actual street, than on that path.

Pool, Shade, Out of Sight

The poster about not being able to see children from the shaded area makes a great point. The person who insulted that poster also made the point about himself that he is too dumb for not seeing a true safety issue here. Or he is just a cheerleader for any and all stupidity done by our council over the years. This was a brand new pool complex that cost a lot of taxpayer money. We know that the pool itself is inadequate for serious swimming programs. Now we learn that the design also impedes parent-s sight-lines to their children? Just more incompetence from a weak and compliant council. They all marched to the beat of their drummer, ex-mayor Garcia. And now we have to pay the price for decades.

Bike path?

Hi guys. Can anyone point out to me a bike path where I have to make continual stops, and I have cars zooming past me on both sides? One that ends in the middle of an intersection with nowhere to go. In other words, does anyone know a bike path that-s as risky as walking a tight rope over a pond filled with crocodiles? Cause that-s the kind of bike path that-s right for me and my kids. I have three too many kids. If I can cut down on my parasites to just two, and eventually get rid of the need of my minivan, that would be great. Oh, whats that? Westward you say? Well, sign me the hell up!

Pool

I know people have been discussing the pool size and that it-s a lot smaller than the old pool and all, but I-m just going to discuss my experience with my little ones. How do you watch your little kids in shade at the new pool? It-s impossible. The shade area is behind the slide and the bathroom allowing no view to watch my little kids. The buildings should have been all along the north end or south end. It-s a lot of wasted space. the shade area should have been closer to the kiddie pool to allow parents to watch their kids without getting a sun burn in the process. Who designs an area for parents with no view of the kiddie area? Clearly, nobody thought about this.

The police can help with patrols, and undercover work along the areas, but code enforcement, and cough - a plan to improve the blighted areas of the Springs would go a lot further than just more cops. Ultimately, blighted areas need to have an improvement plan. I don-t see any and the blight is only getting worse. Again

What the heck does the chief have to do with Eldron Drive and NW 36 street? I blame the politicians for that hot mess.
Report Abuse (beta)

Chief the Adult?

Hello again.      Police departments are governed by contracts and laws; one of which has been the adoption of Civil Service Rules and Regulations.     It takes time to change the Organizational Culture of any group of people, but it is more difficult when we have a system that some times protects the incompetent.     This chief inherited a number of problem employees that were not dealt with by the previous administration as well as some promotions that should had never taken place. In a bigger department you put these people in closets where they can-t do any further harm; sadly this dept does not allow for that luxury.      I suspect that there are some in this community that will never be satisfied with the Police Department; but give it time, you may be surprised.
Report Abuse (beta)

Police, Politicians and Crime

It-s all part of the same formula. Police need to do their job well by being properly trained and given the right tools, equipment and other resources. The police chief has the direct responsibility to ensure a good dept. That means communicating to elected officials what is needed and otherwise directing and overall supervising the dept. Elected officials are directly responsible for the police chief as in hiring and firing and need to hold the chief accountable. Police should also be fairly compensated so the dept can attract and keep the best. Otherwise we get less than stellar candidates and others will use this as a stepping stone to other better paid depts. If any of those factors are lacking we do not have the best dept we can reasonably expect and crime and other negative consequences will result. We as voters and taxpayers also have a major responsibility in that we need to hold elected officials ultimately accountable for any and all shortcomings in the city as a whole, police and otherwise. That is why there is so much frustration in many residents when voters continue to elect the same old, same old.
Report Abuse (beta)

Police

The police is the least of my concerns. My concerns are the politicians who have allowed 36 street, the east end, and Eldron to continue to degrade for the last few decades. Enough. When will it stop? When Z-s kid gets car jacked?
Report Abuse (beta)

Chief the Adult?

You wont get much argument from me about the negative effects of Affirmation Action. I think it was probably warranted many years ago but has long p ed the time for its need. You state that MSPD has the proper tools to do its job. Ok. Some will disagree with that. You also state that the problem lies with mid level management and supervision. If so who is ultimately responsible for that? You can-t have it both ways. The police chief is responsible for his dept. Sure, you will say that many if not most of the problems are a left over from the previous administration. Maybe true, at least to an extent. But that sounds like an excuse. The police chief signed on and it is now his responsibility to run a good dept. If he can-t do the job then he needs to move on and let someone who will not blame the previous staff come in and make things right. It-s pretty simple really. If there is trouble in the ranks or anywhere else in the dept, the chief needs to correct it. Otherwise get out of the way for someone else to try. No excuses.
Report Abuse (beta)

Chief the Adult?

You have misjudged me for I am no one-s "Cheer leader"; I am however, someone who like to deal with facts and not innuendos or rumors.     The first thing that I would ask you to do is to compute the ratio of sworn officers per thousand population in this city and compare it to adjacent municipalities.     Hialeah with a much higher crime problem has barely one officer per thousand population, Coral Gables with their enviable tax rate has approx 3 officers per thousand. BTW the recommended ratio has been 2 per thousand for years and probably needs to be re-addressed.     This department has adequate equipment and no worse than any other agency in this county.     The apparent problem seems to be mid-level management a lack of leadership at this level and supervision.     Now if you want to talk about political interference, let-s talk about the effects of Affirmative Action in the hiring and promotion process.
Report Abuse (beta)

Chief the Adult?

Perhaps you are ignorant and have a problem with reading comprehension. The statement was police chiefs who are political appointees. Period. Didn-t say it was exclusive to this chief, Miami Springs or anywhere else. I am well aware of the fact that most are political appointees. I am also aware of the fact that sometimes those same chiefs will at times cater to their bosses more than the needs of their men and dept. Again, a general statement. I have never applied for a job and have no real opinion of the MS police chief because I don-t know much about him. I do agree that his previous defense regarding 36th st crime in which he wrote a letter disagreeing with a concerned resident is troubling. The question that you fail to answer despite being repeatedly asked is whether or not you feel that the MSPD has adequate resources to do their job in the best way reasonably possible? You seem to be a cheerleader for the chief but you don-t answer the question. There are MS officers who feel that there have been police chiefs who did not go to bat for the rank and file and their needs because of political considerations. For example; Does MSPD have proper and well working communication devices? How about vehicles? How about manning? How about training? How about morale? Do many leave MSPD for greener pastures? You get on here and insult people but if you are connected to MSPD you don-t answer the question. If you are connected to MSPD that kind of blind following is why the MSPD has such lousy pay and benefits.
Report Abuse (beta)

Chief the adult?

I don-t know who you are, but you are very ignorant of how things work and who people are.       ALL Chiefs in Miami Springs are , have been and always be "Political Appointees" That-s the way it is done. There are times when the job is p ed down to someone from within that is capable; however, the previous Chief failed to "Nurture" a Protege for that position and the city had to go to the outside to find a competent Chief. If you were to look at the employment history and qualifications of this chief you would not be talking this trash.     Unless of course, you are a former MSPD with an ax to grind because you didn-t get the job :)
Report Abuse (beta)

Ghetto

The crime problem has do to with having a ghetto in the Springs. Ghettos attract crime. Fix the ghetto, fix the crime. As for 36 street, I agree with adding a bedroom tax and flood 36 street with cops that walk up and down 36 st. They can help tourists and deter pimps, prostitutes, and drug dealers.

The Police have enough resources to do their job, but they DONT. This dept needs to be cleaned out completely and replaced completely because it has gone down the tubes because of this Chief that can even handle this small town. Chief the Adult?

There is a big difference between police "never having enough toys" and being adequately staffed with enough resources to do their jobs properly. And police chiefs who are political appointees often play down needs to keep their bosses happy. So, once again, if you are connected to MSPD do you think the dept has what they need to do their job? A simple question.
Report Abuse (beta)

Not 1960 any more

Please find another word to use; you have beaten "rhetoric" to death. Cops never have enough toys, they always want more and that is why they have a Chief to be the adult in the room.      Being black is not sufficient probable cause for the police to make a stop. Black people can be anywhere they want to be at any time in as long as they are not violating a law. (just like you)     Before you start driving the poor dispatcher nuts with calls of "suspicious black people" make sure to articulate what it is that they are doing that causes you alarm OTHER THAN THEIR MERE PRESENCE.       The year is 2017 and the SCOTUS has changed this country significantly since 1960.

If you are connected to our local police please answer this question. Do you think MSPD has the proper manning, equipment and other resources to do their jobs in the best way reasonably possible? Because I have heard from some police who say no. Do you think we have a crime problem on 36th St? If so what is your beef with us pointing out that the police chief got all defensive and denied any significant problem when he wrote the letter that kind of insulted the lady who did sign her name to a complaint in her letter to the Gazette. If you are related to PD in any way you really need to consider who your friends and supporters are and stop with your own insulting rhetoric. You have been backing the wrong horses for a long time which is why you have such lousy working conditions and benefits.

Beautiful Miami Springs is a quiet residential community located in the heart of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Literally, just minutes away from anything in Miami, it's a slow paced oasis within the larger hustle and bustle of greater Miami.

Miami Springs was founded in 1926 by Glenn Curtiss, also known as the "Father of Naval Aviation." Miami Springs is a middle to upper middle class neighborhood with a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. At the core of Miami Springs is a championship style 18 hole golf course that has hosted hundreds of tournaments and celebrities alike.

Miami Springs has a mix of homes ranging from modest to luxury. Most of the larger, luxury style homes can be found along the beautiful golf course.

Miami Springs has a row of hotels along NW 36 Street, adjacent to Miami International Airport. The proximity to the airport and the 10 - 15 minute distance to the Port of Miami Cruise Ships and South Beach makes Miami Springs a popular hotel destination for tourists from all across the globe.

MiamiSprings.com was created in 1997 by local businessman and Miami Springs resident, Nestor Suarez. Nestor loved the city he grew up in and created the first website dedicated to the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens area. To this day, Mr. Suarez still operates the website providing local news, events, updates, and photos. The website also has a popular (and sometimes controversial) political forum where anyone can discuss current local issues, politics, ideas. Forum posts and Individual comments posted on MiamiSprings.com do not necessarily represent the opinion of MiamiSprings.com, its owner, or its advertisers. MiamiSprings.com encourages you to post your opinions and interact with the MiamiSprings.com online community.
